Feist, City and Colour, the Sheepdogs and Adele are all on the nomination list for the 2012 Sirius XM Indies, Canadian Music Week announced on Wednesday.

The awards show, which has been running for 12 years, will be held on March 24 at the Fairmount Royal York hotel in Toronto.

Nominees include new and familiar faces

The list of 140 nominees represents fresh and familiar faces from a mix of genres.

The Sheepdogs, the Saskatchewan boogie rock group, racked up nominations in four categories, for single of the year for I Don't Know, group or duo of the year, live artist group or duo of the year, and rock artist group or duo of the year.

Earlier this year the band exploded into the international consciousness when it won an online voting contest to become the first ever unsigned band to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. The win came with a record contract with Atlantic Records.

Feist is nominated for album of the year for Metals. She is also nominated for solo artist of the year, where she goes up against Drake collaborator The Weeknd, Coeur de Pirate, Rich Aucoin and Arts & Crafts label mate Dan Mangan. City and Colour are up for two awards, album of the year for Little Hell, and group or duo of the year.

Adele, who recently won six Grammys and two Brit Awards, has been nominated for three indie awards in the international categories for album, single and solo artist of the year.

And no matter who wins in the country artist/group or duo of the year award, Open Road will be happy. All five nominees, Dean Brody, Doc Walker, High Valley, Jason McCoy and Tara Oram are signed to the label.

Nominees voted on by the public

While nominees are put forward by members of the industry, it is both the public and industry that vote on the winners by voting online at www.indies.ca .

To be considered during the nominee selection process, an artist must be either be independent or be on a label other than Warner, Universal, EMI or Sony. However, they can be on a label distributed by one of the larger labels, said Bessie Bullard of Canadian Music Week.

The show will be broadcast across Sirius XM radio stations. Fans can also attend the ceremony live, which will include performances by Passion Pit, The Sheepdogs, Rich Aucoin, Young Empires, Dan Mangan and the Pack A.D. Treble Charger will reunite to play at the awards show, and will also be inducted in the Indies Hall of Fame.
