I am glad snomoee is taking the effort to solve this amicably. I am Canadian-Indian, raised in the UAE and a Canadian Airline Employee so I can understand and appreciate both sides of the argument. I do believe the UAE is wrong in mixing a commercial agreement with Military/Political agreements and I can understand Canada trying to protect their interests. But I do not see how letting Emirates and Etihad fly here more often would affect us? Air Canada does not fly to the UAE One can make the argument that passengers from Canada do not fly to the UAE but rather Via the UAE to other destinations, But Air Canada does not even service those destinations! Only way it would hurt is if snomoee from Canada flies to Europe via the UAE (which would it imbecilic as it would entail a lot of backtracking) I can understand if they are loosing passengers to Emirates or Etihad but they are not. The fact that even if they are govt. subsidized should not be of any concern. In actuality the comment about cheap labor for those airlines is completely inaccurate. Pilots, Engineers even flight attendants on average make double of what their Canadian counterpart makes. (This I know from experience)The issue with the visa for the most part will only affect 1% (if that) of the Canadian population that have family and friends in the UAE. An added 300 million a year will affect the entire Canadian Population. Plus I really feel that more competition for Air Canada will be healthy!
