2 people killed in collision on Merivale Road

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle collision on Merivale Road near Merivale High School late Monday night.

At about 11:40 p.m., Ottawa police were called to the intersection of Merivale Road and Viewmount Drive.

Ottawa paramedics said a man and a woman, both in their 50s or 60s, had multiple injuries and were in cardiac arrest when they arrived.

A 19-year-old man driving one of the vehicles was checked by paramedics and didn't want to go to the hospital.

No details have been released about the cause of the crash.

Merivale Road was closed overnight from Viewmount Drive to Colonnade Road as police investigated.

One southbound lane of traffic reopened around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.
